Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses clear aligners made of SmartTrack® to improve the position of your teeth and jaw. SmartTrack is an FDA-approved thermoplastic free of chemicals like BPS, BPA, and latex, making it safe for people with allergies as well as pregnant women.

What types of issues can Invisalign correct?

At Main Street Dentistry, the team uses Invisalign to treat mild and moderate orthodontic issues, including:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crowding
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Misaligned or malpositioned jaw

You might also benefit from orthodontic treatment with Invisalign if you have crooked teeth or teeth that overlap one another.

What does treatment with Invisalign involve?

Before recommending treatment with Invisalign, your Main Street Dentistry provider conducts an oral exam and takes X-rays to assess the alignment and position of your teeth and jaw. If they determine you can benefit from orthodontics, the team takes digital impressions of your mouth and uploads them to a computer program.

Your provider uses the computer program to develop an orthodontic treatment plan that maps the movements of your teeth and jaw. After explaining the plan and walking you through the process, your provider sends the impressions to a dental laboratory.

The technicians at the dental laboratory use your scans to manufacture a set of custom Invisalign aligners. Once they finish, you return to Main Street Dentistry and try them on. Throughout orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, you wear the aligners for 20-22 hours a day, only removing them to brush and floss or eat.

Every one or two weeks, you visit Main Street Dentistry and change into a new set of aligners. Each new set places mild pressure on your teeth and jaw, improving their alignment.

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

Invisalign usually goes much quicker than treatment with traditional metal braces. Most people complete the process in 6-12* months, but it can take up to 18. To ensure a satisfactory outcome, attend each of your orthodontic check-ups and follow your provider’s instructions carefully.
